| Echo Park, 1999, was GTO's third CD release and first EP since arriving in LA and working with 311 and producer Gabriel Mann. Echo Park, a title spawned from the name of the neighborhood in which the band lived, laid the foundation for the ensuing full-length, "International Dance Marathon," and first brought to light such favorites as "Esta Vida" and "Forever Young." |

| Israfel, the sweetly song you sing
me, is running through my head and back again. All
this life, was everything I could hope for, and
I owe it to you my only friend.
But all my life is a mystery, a
song I sing, a place for me to spread my special
thing. I'd fall apart but for the melody in my view.
And all my love is in everything I do and I'm not
gonna stop, gonna spread my wings, gonna take it
to the top. I swear to God, but I don't know what
I wouldn't do.
Esta Vida is life.
Got myself a twenty dollar bill,
I'm gonna rocket on through the night.
Esta Vida is life.
No matter what the doctor gonna say,
I've had a mighty good life.
She held my hand, as though it were
the last one, that she would ever have to call her
own. And in this time, she built up her defenses,
and it's a damn good thing she works alone.
Repeat pre-chorus/chorus.
You were the one that they run and
they turn to. Always the same 'cause he loves who
he wants to. Never could guess 'cause he knows his
opinion, better than anyone else. Sick of himself
he can care for no other, but now he's so far away
he's lost touch with his mother, and he has suffered
enough for the cause, but a secret clause says spread
your wings and fly.
Everything is gonna be okay, when
the day turns to night or the night turns into day.
I'd fall apart but for the melody in my view. But
all my love in everything I do and I'm not gonna
stop, gonna spread my wings, gonna take it to the
top. I swear to God but I don't know what I wouldn't
do.
Repeat chorus.

So, you say you
want a hit song. One that I'll write just so the
world can sing along. You're gonna like it when
the radio is on, humming it all day long, you've
got the melody in your head.
You got the hit
song. One day I'm here and the next I am gone. Right
or wrong, it doesn't matter what I say, you're gonna
come away with the melody in your head.
Different faces,
same ideas, different faces, same ideas... Life
goes on, after the song, life goes on and on and...
How many times
have you heard this song on the radio before? Spinning
the dial for your favorite style, baby that's entertainment.
I never worried
about myself any more than you do. I carried on
like a butterfly and flew for higher mountains.
Are you fully
satisfied with everything you write? Are you doing
it for love? Are you living in the past, trying
to make your moment last? What do you think I'm
thinking of?
Repeat chorus.
How many times
have you heard that line about the guy who lost
the girl? Well this is a case where I've lost my
taste for the same old observations.
But I never worried
about myself anymore than you do. I carried on like
a butterfly and flew for higher mountains.
There are places
in your heart, you search for love and call it art.
Can't we all just get along? In your search for
higher ground, you make no efforts to come down.
I won't forget you when I'm gone.
Repeat chorus.

I won't take "no"
for an answer. My eyes are set on you. It'll take
much more than a mouthful, to tell you how much
I love you.
But even when
I strike out on my own, I trickle down to leave
this world alone, I filter out and I'm no different
than anybody else, walkin' downtown.
I live my life
for a reason. To spread my wealth around. To make
music and love and lift consciousness up it's a
feeling, every time that I'm around.
Noel, do tell,
I know you, too well.
Noel, do tell, I know you, too well,
and you're no different than anybody else.
Oh, darlin',
Jimmy packed his bags and went away. Oh, darlin',
it didn't have to be this way. . .

Well
it's a capital offense, to write it on the wall,
that you hate your country and you'd kill your family.
Now you've lost your best defense, and you want
to tell them all, but your ill-bred actions brought
no satisfaction.
But, it's never enough.
You know it's never enough.
You know something I don't.
Always do what I won't.
Everything is stranger I'm no better from this at
all.
Have
you lost yourself.
Oh, you gotta pick it up.
You got your health and something to believe in.
Have you lost yourself.
Oh, you gotta pick it up.
You got your health and something to believe in.
Flying
into mountains.
Faring, but whose your captain.
Repeat
chorus.
If you want to make it right, then you gotta take
a stand. Gotta fight your own impressions, and be
a better man. 'Cause the world is on your shoulders,
but the weight is what you need. It may feel a little
colder, you got to bleed to feed the seed.
You
ride the wave that guides you.
Always deep within you.
Repeat
chorus.

I
left my mother's womb in 1969. I went through life
and let my optimism shine. And opportunity was never
hard to find. You got to hold on, hold on to your
honor.
Remember doing things I thought were pretty cool.
Like gettin' high and drinking whiskey after school.
So sentimental they could play me for a fool. You've
got to hold on, hold on to your honor.
You say love is what you need. I would do anything
just to bring you up to speed, that all my hopes
and all my dreams, they come together exactly as
they seem.
First rule says you've got to believe in who you
are. Second asks you to believe anything is possible.
Third, get up and do it, boy you'll be a star. My
roots are constellations, guiding me home 'cause
I'm living for the love of rock and roll.
I celebrate the times when I was young and life
was easy. Seven days a week and it was always fun.
And everything we did was reason for a celebration.
What I would give to be forever young. Forever and
ever and ever 'til I'm cool with growing...
I'm a moonshine daydreamer, sweet sugar cane. If
I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing.
I've made mistakes that have changed my mind. Everything
to gain, nothing left to leave behind.
Life's
too short for anger, too short to live in fear.
Too short for the mad-a-men screaming that the end
is near. Too short to be silent, too short to be
alone. My roots are constellations, guiding me home
'cause I'm living for the love of rock and roll.
Repeat chorus.
Time it passes by, you let it go. Love it come on
in, and out my door. When nothing else remains,
but what's inside, you've got to hold on, hold on...
Repeat first pre-chorus/chorus.

Been
livin' in a hotel lobby most my life. Never owned
more than I could carry and that's alright. Did
what I wanted to do. So I sing these words that
are true because I'm proud of what I do, and I thank
God I am part of the lucky few who have purpose.
I've had good times here, how much they mean to
me you'll never know. I wouldn't trade any of my
memories, but I got to hit the road.
I want to live the perfect life with a house, two
kids and a very, very lovely wife. All it takes
is your faith in me, and my faith in you it grows
greater when you set me free.
Better
than love is a little bit of respect and knowing
when, to let it go.
Someday, baby, when I return, I'll let you buy my
story, tell you what I've learned . . .
